E-Commerce Best Practices

As presented during the 2020 NAA Conference and Show, Raspina Jannesar, Sr. Director of Client Success for ATG North America, shares how implementing e-commerce best practices for your next auction will help you achieve maximum results. From understanding your target audience, marketing, photography, and descriptions – this presentation will prep you for success.

Meet Your Team: Pat Nguyen, Account Director, Proxibid

I joined Proxibid in 2003 as an intern and have held many roles throughout my 17-year tenure. I started out in tech support back when ‘busy’ meant operating 5 auctions a month. In comparison, today fifty auctions could be running in one day!

My current responsibility as Account Director is to ensure a high level of service and care for our clients which could cover everything from designing a high performing marketing campaign for their upcoming auction, to auction day support. My main goals are to help clients have successful auctions and grow their business.

My most memorable auction experience is from 2006 when an auctioneer reached out to Proxibid wanting to add online bidding to their auction. The auction was three days away, so we had to move quickly. We got their auction posted, advertising campaign in place, and logistics agent booked to fly out the next day to be onsite for the event. This is poignant to me because of how our relationship with this auctioneer has strengthened over the years and how everyone in the company came together, implemented a plan, and got the necessary pieces in place to help the auction produce the best possible results. That ethos of ‘collaborate to win’ is one of our corporate values today.

If I could give auctioneers any recommendation to improve their business, it would be a reminder that your online presence plays a role in how potential customers see your company. It’s crucial to make a great first impression for both online bidders looking for inventory to purchase and consignors looking for the right partner to help sell their equipment, estate or collections. This includes everything from your website, your ratings, reviews and social channels, to photo quality and item descriptions in your catalogs, payment instructions, shipping/checkout details and even your terms of sale.

As your Account Director, I will do my part to ensure your auctions are successful. We have a shared success model here at Proxibid so as clients’ businesses grow, we grow. I love that.

Online Auction Success: A/V Best Practices Checklist

Auction day can be filled with great surprises. Setting new auction records, reconnecting with old friends and bringing smiles to faces of customers are some of the great memories of your auctions. Technology issues should not be one of them.

As your online auction partner, we offer this A/V Best Practices Checklist to help you prepare for your live event.

1-2 days before your auction

  1. Download/Upgrade Java to the latest version. https://www.java.com/
  1. Test your onsite internet connection and any cell phones used for audio in advance of the live auction.
  1. If broadcasting audio/video onsite, test your live audio/video in AuctionBuilder.
  1. Update and test all computer, sound and video hardware and software prior to your auction.

Day of the Auction

  1. Set up computer and audio/video hardware approximately 90 minutes prior to auction.
  1. Launch your auctioneer application 45-60 minutes prior to live auction start time. This will ensure bidders have plenty of time to login to their auction before it starts.
  1. Launch your Auctioneer Heads-Up Display for real-time bids delivered directly to the podium.
  1. Setup audio/video 30 minutes prior to live auction.
  1. If calling in remote audio to Proxibid, dial 402-504-3500 20-30 minutes prior to live auction start time.
