Shirley Temple Fans Flock to Kansas City and the Internet to Own a Piece of History

Omaha, NE – July 21, 2015 – Proxibid (www.proxibid.com), the most trusted online Marketplace for buying and selling highly valued items, was the exclusive provider of online bidding in the July 14 auction, “Love, Shirley Temple”, presented by Theriault’s, the world’s leading auction house for childhood objects. The auction featured 580 film costumes, props, celebrity gifts, dolls, toys, and playthings cherished and carefully preserved by Shirley Temple and her family for nearly 80 years.

Twenty-eight percent of the total sales were transacted online via Proxibid, including the iconic red polka dot dress worn in the 1934 film “Stand Up and Cheer,” which sold for $75,000 to an online buyer. More than 600 online buyers from nearly all 50 states as well as disparate locations like  Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany and Japan, among others, logged onto Proxibid to bid in this historic sale. The online catalog saw more than 133,000 views, making this one of the highest trafficked sales in Theriault’s history.

“Shirley Temple’s story is not a Hollywood story, it’s a piece of American history,” said Stuart Holbrook, President of Theriault’s. “Many of her fans could not make the trip to Kansas City. Online bidding with Proxibid was a crucial component to bringing this collection to the people whose lives Shirley Temple touched. Bidding online with Proxibid ensured those fans had the same experience that they would have received onsite with Theriault’s.”
