Auctionata Brings Space Travel Memorabilia Auction to Proxibid’s Marketplace

Omaha, Neb. – Sept. 8, 2014 – Proxibid (www.proxibid.com), the most trusted online Marketplace for buying and selling highly valued items, will provide online bidding for Auctionata’s sale of Soviet Space Memorabilia on Sat., Sept. 13 at 6 p.m. Central European Time. This live auction features more than 100 lots of rare space travel objects from a private collection, including suits worn in space, a cognac bottle consumed by the first man in space and many more fascinating items. While many bidders may not have the opportunity to bid onsite at the auction in Berlin, Germany, they can participate online via Proxibid. Online bidding in this auction is already available by visiting www.proxibid.com/auctionata.

The objects come exclusively from the collection of the Berlin-based pop-art artist Andora, who was the first and only artist to conquer space when he painted one of the proton rockets at the request of the Russian space agency, which was launched into space in 1992. Fascinated by space flight and the universe, he completed a cosmonaut training and amassed an extensive collection of fascinating items, such as original space suits, equipment and a myriad of books, photographs and rare memorabilia. Online buyers will not want to miss their opportunity to win coveted items such as:

  • Lot 33: Dog Space Suit – This was one of the first space suits for dogs to test the effects of low gravity and high-speed launches on living organisms. Dogs played an important role in the preparation of space missions. The suit was used in the training program of the famous space dogs Belka and Strelka.
  • Lot 69: Piece of Wostok 1, Signed by Juri Gagarin, c. 1960 – One of the biggest highlights of this auction is a fragment of Wostok 1, the spaceship used by Juri Gagarin in 1961 as he became the first man to travel into space. The piece belonged to the retrorocket and was signed by Gagarin himself on the day of his landing, perhaps the greatest milestone in the history of space travel.
  • Lot 73: Bottle of Cognac Consumed and Signed by Juri Gagarin – This cognac bottle was consumed by Juri Gagarin on Nov. 2, 1967 after he was nominated as a backup commander of Soyuz 1. Gagarin was the first man in space, and this bottle is signed and dated by the astronaut “11.2.67 Moscow.”
  • Lot 30: “Forel” (Trout) Hydrosuit – This wetsuit was used for emergency landings on water. It is the model “Forel,” which was made in 1984 for the crew of the spaceship Soyuz T-12.
  • Lot 28: Flown and Expended Coffee with Milk Tube – This coffee with milk tube was one of the first beverages that was developed for aerospace to test whether human beings could eat and drink in space. Astronaut Pavel Popovich stayed almost three days in orbit, and he was the one to enjoy the coffee from this tube.

“Sales of such historical value and sentiment are rarely offered to the public like this,” said Fabian Markus, Principal Auctioneer for Auctionata. “We are honored to share these exciting pieces of space exploration with the world. We understand many of our international bidders cannot attend the live auction, but we are pleased to send them to proxibid.com to partake in the sale online.”
